Three Sources About How Money Is Ruining Sports For The Fans

- All sports fans love the rivalry games. It is the most hyped game of the year for fans. Because of promised money in other conferences, many rivalry games will never happen again. For this source, I will state that fans want to see rivalry games and because of money, they won't happen anymore. Avid sports fans are upset about this and there is no end in sight. Because of conference realignment, more and more rivalries are being abolished.

- The lockouts that have occurred in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL are a main point that I want to discuss in my paper. I want to discuss how in each lockout, the main problem between players and owners has been revenue sharing. Seasons have been cut short or even lost entirely due to the issue of how to split up the income earned by executives. Fans never want to see parts of a season missed because of greediness or how to split up a final 4% of income but it has happened to every major sport over the last 20 years.

- This specifically that fans are not reacting well to the constant raising of ticket prices every year. Attendance has been declining, but the prices continue to rise. Going to games is something that every sports fans loves. However, it is becoming harder and harder to afford to go. The average ticket price for NFL games in 2010 was $252. Most fans are just not willing to pay that much money for one game. 

Apollo 11

This is the topic that I am most passionate about and I feel like I could write a very good research paper on it. Even though I could never get conclusive evidence, I always thought of a research paper as doing all you can to convince the reader of your beliefs. I believe there is a lot of evidence out there pointing in the direction of a hoax which I could use to back up the argument. I could also talk about the kairos or context of the time period. There is no doubt that the U.S. had motivation to pull of the hoax. At this time, the United States were losing the Cold War and the space race. The Soviet Union had sent up Sputnik which woke up Americans to the fact that the government should be doing more to compete. America had to do something to get its people back to believing that they could win the Cold War. It would also be fairly easy to showcase evidence using logos, ethos, and pathos. The ethos is that it was potentially done by the American government and more specifically the President of the United States. People would never believe that the government would pull something like this because of the fact that they are supposed to be the most trustworthy people in the country. With logos, I could give photographic evidence of a hoax. I know from a documentary that I watched, that there are many photos that are undeniably doctored and others that do not make any sense. With pathos, I could use the argument that it appeals to the pride. Americans were scared and worried during the Cold War that they would lose their world power to the USSR and by putting a man on the moon. All faith would be restored. It is clear that I could write a lot about this topic. My only worry is that this is a specific event. I know most people were writing about very broad topics such as animal testing, climate change etc. I am not sure if I am allowed to write about a specific event. However, if it is acceptable, I would love to do more research on this subject and write a great research paper.  

Potential Research Topics

1. Concussions in the NFL/NHL
     - What are the long term effects of suffering concussions in sports? Is there more that can be done to help prevent the long term effects? Should they implicate more safety procedures? Are lawsuits justified?

2. Apollo 11 Moon Landing
    - Many people still think that the apollo 11 moon landing was a hoax. Is there evidence to justify their beliefs?

3. Charles Manson

    - He is up for parole in August. It has been proven that he never actually touched any of the murder victims. Does he deserve to still be in prison even though he never actually murdered anyone?
